How this site makes money
Plainly, in one page, because you should not have to guess.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and go on to book something, the company pays this site a commission. You pay exactly the same price — the commission comes out of the company’s margin, not out of your booking. You are never charged more for using a link here, and you are never obliged to use one.
Affiliate links on this site are marked in two ways: they are the buttons with an arrow, and they carry
the rel="sponsored" attribute that search engines and browsers read. Plain text links inside
articles — to an operator’s timetable, to a museum, to a government page — are ordinary
links that earn nothing.
At the time of writing, this site participates in affiliate programmes covering car rental, tours and activities, accommodation, airport transfers, eSIM data, travel insurance and travel money. Programmes are added and dropped over time.
What commission does not buy
It does not buy a recommendation. Guides are written first and links are added afterwards where a suitable one exists. Several of the strongest recommendations on this site — book the Hypogeum directly through Heritage Malta, buy the Comino shuttle ticket at the quay in Ċirkewwa, take the public bus instead of the tour bus, do not rent a car if you are staying in Sliema — earn nothing at all. They are there because they are the right advice.
Nothing on this site is a paid placement, a sponsored post, or a review written in exchange for a free stay or a free trip. If that ever changes, it will be labelled on the page it appears on, not in the footer.
Privacy
This site is a set of static pages. It does not ask you to create an account, it does not run a newsletter, and it does not collect names, email addresses or payment details, because it has nowhere to put them. What follows is everything that does happen.
- Analytics. Aggregate visitor statistics may be collected to understand which guides are useful. Where analytics are used, they are configured not to identify individual readers.
- Affiliate tracking. When you follow an affiliate link, the destination company sets its own cookie so it can attribute a booking. That happens on their domain and is governed by their privacy policy, not this one. Cookie lifetimes vary by programme, from a single session up to a year.
- Advertising. This site may display advertising served by Google. Google and its partners use cookies to serve and measure ads. Where required, a consent message asks you first, and you can change your choice at any time. Google’s own explanation of the data it uses is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- Hosting. The web server keeps standard request logs, as all web servers do.
- Fonts. Typefaces are served by Google Fonts, which involves a request to Google from your browser.
You can block or clear cookies in your browser at any time; the site works normally without them. If you want anything about your visit clarified or removed, write to me at the address below.
Accuracy
Everything here is written in good faith and reviewed on the date shown at the top of each guide. Timetables, fares, opening hours and entry rules change frequently in Malta, and this site links to operators’ own pages for the current figures rather than reproducing numbers that will go stale. Check anything time-sensitive at the source before you rely on it. Nothing on this site is legal, medical, financial or insurance advice.
